The Arctic tern is a tiny, slender bird with black-capped head and a forked tail. Its bills turns bright red in the Arctic spring and summer.They have short legs and webbed feet.From the tip of its tail the bird measures 13-15 inches and weighs between 86 to 127 gm.This graceful seabird eats fish and small marine invertebrates. They hover above the water's surface before diving into the sea. Every year, Arctic tern flies from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back again, a distance of 40000 kms in just 90 days! In its lifetime, the distance the tern flies is equal to traveling to the moon and back!!
